The Kigamboni Community Centre KCC
The Challenge: Children looking to join primary school after the age of 9 will not be accepted. The only option for them is to sit and pass an exam given to students at the end of the 4th year of primary school. Of course, children not attending school would be highly unlikely to be able to pass this exam
KCC’s Solution: KCC provides a free, accelerated primary programme taking place in a special class at Kigmaboni Primary School covering years 1-4 in a two-year period. Those who pass the exam at the end of second year regain access to the government school system. Those who don’t pass remain in KCC’s programme and have the opportunity to re-sit the exam until they do pass. The children are taught by professional teachers.
