Community Awareness, Empowerment & Education

The Challenge: A significant number of challenges in the community exist simply as a result of a lack of education or access to important information. Whilst educating the children and youth through the Peer Education programme about these issues addresses the problem from one angle, it’s also critical that the adults in the community have access to the same knowledge and information if things are to change.

KCC’s Solution: To run a community education and empowerment programme aimed at adults in the community. This programme has two streams:

• An education stream to provide relevant information and education to help adults in the community to prevent avoidable problems arising
• An empowerment stream which brings community members together to generate ideas about how to address more complex problems and which encourages them to take ownership of their own roles in fixing them
