The Kigamboni Community Centre KCC
KCC was founded in 2007 to address the issues of poverty and the lack of access to education and other opportunities for youth in Kigamboni. Since then, the centre has been providing free nursery and primary education for children without access to government schools, a social education programme, a broad talent development programme, and a vocational training programme. The centre is run by a team of 26 volunteers, and provides education and opportunities to more than 250 children from the local community. In 2011 KCC established a number of small businesses which it plans to develop in order to generate a sustainable income to cover the core costs of all its social activities.
KCC’s activities are split into 5 distinct and mutually supporting areas:
The work at KCC is really enjoyable. The volunteers, especially the locals are very nice. Luckily, we have much to do. The kids at KCC are incredibly sweet and thankful for every help.
Volunteer from Germany
I started to be a student at KCC of acrobatics, and 2014 I was among the students who were chosen to go to Europe for the culture exchange program. When I came back I decided to work and apply for volunteer work at KCC in order to give back the community what I got from them. So I had to stay helping children and youth in our community to develop their acrobatics talent and I really love what I do to them.

You proved that an idea can change the world by a children’s smile. And you made me smile like a children, too. Thanks for the experience.

KCC took me from the street in 2014 and also KCC continues to give me all the basic needs like others get from their home, such as shelter, clothes, food and education. KCC decides to help me and I promise to study very hard in order to help other people like me. KCC is like my father and my mother.
